Illustrated neighbourhood map for Quartiersmanagement Donaustraße-Nord

I worked with Quartiersmanagement Donaustraße-Nord to design an illustrated map of their neighbourhood, in the Neukölln district of Berlin. 

The  folding maps have been given out to residents and feature a calendar of local events, community activities and social support group details on the rear side.

The project was funded by the city of Berlin, and hopes to make residents aware of local amenities and also give them a sense of pride in the neighbourhood and of course a cool free poster for the wall!

The Donaustraße-Nord district is a lively, bustling neighbourhood home to people from many different nationalities. I tried to capture the distinctive atmosphere through a series of moments within the map; a demonstration against gentrification and rising rents at Hermannplatz, a community street  party along Donaustraße, a turkish wedding parade and then lots of the shops, restaurants and people who make this place what it is. 

The illustrated map was drawn entirely by hand, with colour and editing done digitally in Photoshop.
